[Week 18] Boys of Bergerac

Happy tuesday everyone! Sorry this is a little late.. We dont have a p-day this week and we were super busy yesterday, so yeah this is the only time I have to email!

This week was a fun one. First off we had zone conference in Bordeaux. Elder Texiera of the 70 and his wife came to speak to us. He's a really smart and inspired man. He said a bunch of really inspired words. He said if we want to succeed we need to talk to literally every person the Lord puts in our path. His wife is hilarious. Her english isnt that great.. she's got this heavy european accent and makes tons of gramatical errors. So in this classic english she just basically just told us all we suck and need to repent the whole time. She's a fire ball. President and soeur Roney are super awesome. Soeur Roney is just this sweet motherly figure who loves everyone so much. Then President is just a spiritual giant. The spirit was very strong while he was speaking. Though the best part of the conference was that we were combined with the Toulouse zone. So I got to see E. Smith from my mtc district again. I love that cute little guy!

Afterwards we had a bunch of time left so we all headed out together to go contacting. We took the tram to this big plaza in the middle of the ville. It was prime. Until all the sudden a giant group of angry soccer fans showed up and started rioting haha. All the other Elders had left while I was contacting this guy and I didnt notice Apparently there was some big match between Bordeaux and serbia or someother country like that. Anyways the rioters were going crazy and chanting and banging stuff and just making a mess off the place. So the military showed up and started facing them down in full riot gear just like in Call of Duty haha. It was pretty intense. At this point Elder Wilcox and I decided to get out of Dodge. We caught up with the rest of the Missionaries by the gare. About half or so hopped on trains and went home. The rest stayed around and preached a bit of the restored gospel! I grabbed E. Smith and we started talking to people. We contacted this one lady who was on vacation and had a bunch of luggage. We offered to carry them for her and her friend and she accepted. We walked her stuff like half way across town at her hotel it seemed haha then we noticed the time. Our train was leaving in 5 mins! So we took off in a dead sprint to try and catch our train. Unfortunately I aint as good as I once was and have slowed down a bit over the years. I was about all used up when we arrived to the gare. We ended up missing the train- but there was another one leaving an hour later so c'etait pas grave. We continued contacting throughout the night. During the 2 or so hours of contacting in Bordeaux we got more phone numbers or follow up RDV's than 2 full transfers in Bergerac. It was really weird. Hopefully the Bordeaux équipe baptizes some of the people we found!
Yesterday we spent the entire day with some potential ami's. They took us out to a french buffet. It was startled to find out that they eat at buffets like they eat at any other meal.. in courses. So my first plate I grabbed a ton, not knowing what layed ahead. After everyone was done we went back for the main dish. So trying to get my moneys worth I loaded up my plate again. Then after this course we went up and ate again. There was literally a 50 50 chance I was going to die.

Later in the night we headed over to chez Famille Fuentes. Theyre this Ecudorian family who are just amazing saints. They have over come so much difficulty. Ill tell their full story later but theyve been faithful through out. They were living in a van for a month and a half, then miraculously the branch found a house for them to move into. So we went over there (oh and they dont speak any french) and took with us a couple who speaks spanish to translate. It was super fun but at the end they made us eat a bunch of hamburgers and I about died of over eating that day. If you all could keep that family in your prayers in would be greatly appreciated. I love them so much, just such awesome people.

Ill find out friday whats happening next transfer. So its possible you wont hear back from me til tuesday or so. But thats about it. I love you all! Thanks for the package by the way it finally came through. The slacks were MUCH needed. Thanks for all you do.
Oh, and stay classy ;)
Forever Love
Elder Gruber
